Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 28, 2016 (SKNP): The People’s Employment Programme (PEP) will today Thursday, September 29, 2016, celebrate the graduation of seventy-one  (71)  interns.

The Graduation Ceremony is scheduled to be held at the New Town Community Center starting at 5pm and will feature interns who have been trained in Cosmetology, Graphic Arts, Office Administration and Early Childhood Development.

This comes after much political debate about the trainees been sent home on the advice of the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister,  Mr. Desouza. He advised them then that they will finally be assigned to the regular work force. Added to this,  they were assured that not only will they continue to receive their stipends but that they will be given the opportunity to use the skills garnered from their extensive training in finding meaningful employment.

A government press release issued on Wednesday 28th stated that since the September 1 announcement, over 75% of the interns have been placed in permanent jobs.
