St. Kitts Wins Leeward Islands Men’s One Day Tournament

Charlestown, Nevis – Saint Kitts and Nevis were the proud hosts of the Leeward Islands One Day Tournament and after a successful hosting, the St. Kitts National Cricket Team are Champions. Their hard-work, the teamwork and the dedication paid dividends. 

Going into their last game against Nevis at the Elquemedo Willet Park the St. Kitts Team required a win to avoid a net run rate calculation. Nevis having won the toss and deciding to bat posted 239 all out. St. Kitts after occupying the crease looked very confident in search of their target. With 4 overs remaining and 11 runs required St. Kitts were sure of victory as they were placed at 229/6. While scores in the match weren’t readily available, St. Kitts went on to beat their Nevisian counterparts and used the moment to celebrate there after. Certainly a victory that will be cherished for years to come

Competing teams in the tournament were Anguilla, Antigua, Montserrat, US Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis. Worthy of mention is the participation of West Indian Cricketer Kieran Powell who captained the Nevis Team. Further, West Indian Under 19 champs Kacey Carty and Alzarri Joseph played for Anguilla and Antigua respectively.

Antigua and Nevis were the runners up respectively. While St. Kitts went undefeated, Antigua lost one game while Nevis lost three games.

Kudos must be given to players of the various teams as they gave supporters reason to journey to the various games. Special mention must be made of Akeem Saunders and Jermaine Otto who both scored centuries in the tournament. Some of the other outstanding performances came from
Kadeem Philipp, Orlando Peters, Hayden Walsh, Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwall, Tonito Willet, Adelvin Philipp, Akito Willet, Demo Baker, Quinton Boatswin, Jeremiah Louis, Jason Campbell and Tashmail Henry.
