Cricket lovely Cricket; the sun was shining in all it’s glory as both captains graced the Elquemedo Willet Field for the coin toss which Nevis won and elected to field- It was the the beginning of Nevis’ second game in the Leeward Islands Tournament.

After a long hiatus, Leeward Islands Cricket returned to the Elquemedo Willet Park and what better way to ring it in with a brilliant knock from Tonito Willet against Montserrat. Vice Captain Willet played a steady hand for the Nevis team in a losing effort as they were bowled out for six runs shy of their target.

Requiring 174 to win, the Nevis team lost early wickets as Captain Kieran Powell wasn’t able to get it going. Finding themselves in a spot of bother with six wickets down, a partnership between Justin Athanaze and Tonito Willet brought hope to the Nevis team.  However, this was short lived as the wicket of Athanaze fell. A duo pace attack from Montserrat ensured a victory after the informed Willet was caught behind; the task became even harder for Nevis.

Scores in the match were as follows:

Montserrat posted a reasonable total of 173/8. Jaison Peters scored 40 while Deno Baker posted  38 and Dion West made 28.

The pick of the bowlers for Nevis were:

Jason Campbell: 10-2-24-3
Justin Athanaze: 10-2-18-2

Nevis in reply posted 167 all out in 39.5 overs. Tonito Willet topped scored with 61 and Justin Athanaze made 32.

Special kudos to Boatswin who bagged 5 wickets:

Montserrat Top Bowlers were:

Qunton Boatswain: 9.5-1-38-5
Damion Williams: 8-0-37-3

Montserrat won by 6 runs.

Nevis’ next match will be played on Sunday 24th April 2016 at the Elquemedo Willet Park against Anguilla.
