Nevis Wins: Willet Scores Half Century In Nevis’ First Encounter

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Friday 22 April -Nevis’ first encounter in the Leeward Islands 50 Over Tournament had a few hiccups. As such, Nevis had to play their first match in St. Kitts due to inclement weather as the Elquemedo T. Willet Park  was unfit for play in the 2nd Match of the 2016 LICB tournament between Nevis and the USVI.

Hence, the technical committee for the tournament decided to reschedule the match which was originally set for Thursday 21 April at the ETW Park, Nevis.

Nevertheless, the Nevisian team led by Kieran Powell and Tonito Willet were not deterred as they were prepared for the USVI Team.

With a scheduled 9:30 am start, the action at Warner Park unfolded.

Having won the toss the Virgin Islands decided that they would bat first:

The USVI were bowled out for 87 from 29.2 overs. Although they failed to post a competitive score, a fighting knock from Cruickshank (54) ensured they got to this total.

The pick of the Bowlers for Nevis were:

Jason Campbell 7-1-22-5
Adelvin Phillip 6-1-16-2
Kieran Powell 3.2-2-5-2
Nelson Bolan 5-1-14-1

Nevis in pursuit of USVI’s 87, scored 88/2 from 17.4 overs. With Ross Powell scoring 20* and Tonito Willett scoring 54*.

Nevis won by 8 wickets.
