Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 16, 2016 : An early morning shooting sent shock waves across the island of Nevis as it resulted in the death of a young male.
An official press release from the Royal St. Christopher And Nevis Police Public Relations Department states that, “The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is investigating a shooting incident on Nevis that has resulted in the death of one individual. The incident occurred on Pinney’s Beach.”
Further the report states that, “investigations by the Violent Crime Unit (VCU) have revealed that the shooting which occurred about 3.00am (Saturday, April 16) resulted in the death of Vincy Ferlance, a 20 year old male resident of Bath Village.”
Unofficial reports indicate that the victim was attending a charity event when he was shot at close range. Initial reports indicate that the victim received a wound to his torso; he was rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries.
While investigations are ongoing, this is the second shooting incident for the week on Nevis, a drive by shooting incident in Newcastle was the first. With that said, this death takes the murder count to ten (10) in the federation for 2016, seven (7) in St. Kitts and three (3) in Nevis. Last year the Federation recorded a total of 34 murders.
