SKN Pulse, Friday 11 March, 2016 – Expectations were high, a boost was on the way for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua and after winning the toss the Leeward Islands decided to bat first against the Guyana Jaguars.
The return of Kieran Powell to regional cricket was in full effect. The six feet tall left-handed opening batsman wasted no time as he unleashed his arsenal of cricket shots while impressing the Antiguan crowd through 14 overs.
Opening the batting with Kacey Carty, Powell displayed his prowess as he scored a half century (50) within 48 balls and 52 minutes while hitting 6×4 and 1×6. However, his innings came to a halt shortly after the drinks break, when he was caught by Raymon Reifer and bowled by Christopher Barnwell for 55. Kieran dominated the opening partnership stance which stood at 76 before the fall of the first wicket.
The 26-year-old Nevisian star has played 21 Tests and 28 One-day Internationals for the West Indies.
Prior to his return, he last played for the Hurricanes two years ago, when he was captain and the home team crumbled to defeat at the hands of the Barbados Pride at the same venue.
