SKN PULSE, Thursday 17th September 2015- As the citizens of Federation reflected on persons who contributed significantly to the development of Saint Kitts and Nevis on National Heroes Day, it was revealed that a new National Hero would be announced.
Currently there are four National Heroes, namely Sir Robert L. Bradshaw, Sir Caleb Azirah Paul Southwell, Sir Joseph Nathaniel France and Sir Simeon Daniel.
Thus, as one reflects, icons such as Sir Kennedy Simmonds, Mr. Malcolm Guishard, Mr. Elquemedo Willet, Mr. Derick Parry, Stuart Williams, Mr. Keith Arthurton and Mrs.Lydia Thompson comes to mind. As seconds and minutes fade, the heightened speculation will continue, Who Will It Be?
With the trend favouring politicians it is the belief that Sir. Kennedy Simmonds, (first Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis) would be the person that is awarded the order of National Hero. If such turns out to be correct, such a recognition should be celebrated.
However, sports icons who would have contributed significantly to marketing their country as a brand are time and time again ignored for their time, talent and commitment as their time to be honoured seemingly isn’t anywhere in sight.
