Sports Feature: Soccer In The USVI.
SKN PULSE, Tuesday 14th April 2015 – The notion of improvement doesn’t happen magically, mechanisms ought to be in place for transitioning to occur. Thus, the USVI Soccer Association has announced its upcoming Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) sponsored grassroots course and festival, which will be held at the Caravelle Hotel and Bethlehem Field. Such activities would aid in the development of football and motivate youths to aspire to advance themselves further in the sport.
The organized Grassroots program will feature a series of sessions on coaching youth soccer. This would be led by a national of Saint Kitts and Nevis, (Mr. Leonard Lake) who currently serves as technical director of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA). The event commences on Thursday, April 23 and concludes on Saturday, April 25. Such an event, may bode well for the sport, as coaches may garner tips, increased participation from new football enthusiasts and a wider football base may be developed.
According to president Hillaren Frederick it is hoped that the sessions would garner interest from parents and physical education teachers so that they can gain an understanding of the game and further enhance their existing coaching skills.
To close, the last day will feature a festival at Bethlehem Field near the Charles H. Emanuel School.
