The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party Express Thanks For Public Support.

SKN PULSE,  Thursday 26th February 2015 – The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party at their press conference held today Thursday 26th February 2015 at the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Headquarters emphasized that they will ensure that even in opposition they will be vibrant.  Candidates used the opportunity to express there thanks for the votes gathered at the polls in the recent elections.  Present were Former Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Honourable Marcella Liburd, Honourable Konris Maynard, Honourable Patrice Nisbett and Honourable Asim Martin, Mr. Glen Philipp,  Dr. Terrence Drew,  Dr. Norgen Wilson and Dr. Vance Gilbert. Notably absent were Honourable Robelto Hector and Mr. Cory Tyson of The Nevis Reformation Party.

The press conference was chaired by the Former Minister of Health,  the Honourable Marcella Liburd who welcomed the media and other personnel to the conference,  introduced the head table and rendered brief remarks before introducing and inviting Dr. Denzil Douglas to speak. In his presentation the Former Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the masses for overwhelmingly supporting their Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party. The former Prime Minister assured citizens that the Oneness Alliance of The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party will continue to work in the best interest of the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis even in Opposition.

The Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas also used the opportunity to emphasize that confidence was bestowed upon The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party when Honourable Minister of State Wendy Colleen Phipps spoke of the Pogson Hospital after leading a delegation that included PAHO representatives as the Minister remarked that  “What we have achieved here at Pogson is benchmarking. It is something that has the potential to become a best practice model elsewhere and we will try our best, in terms of maintaining what we have”,  this in itself is testament to the fact that The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party were well on their way with the development plans for Saint Kitts and Nevis stated Dr. Douglas.

Further,  the Former Prime Minister has indicated that there are pertinent issues that need to be addressed while going forward. Such matters include, the boundary changes, the Privy Council’s. decision, the removal of names from the list and the delaying of a flight from New York which arrived late and had over one hundred and sixty-four (164) supporters who would have voted solidly for The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party in Constituencies #1 and #4 respectively. Such a statement is indicative of the next move by the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party which is to contest the results in the court of law.

Added to this,  Former Deputy Prime Minister Asim Martin who also thanked his supporters and non supporters for participating in the voting process  advanced that he has already contacted his lawyers to ascertain their legal expertise in moving forward.

Hence,  with the obvious intentions of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party it comes as no surprise that the revelation was made that an investigation has been launched with regards to the flight dilemmas and private investigators had been sought.

In addition to this, matters pertaining to the actions of Team Unity were also raised.  These included the denying of access to Former Secretary of The Prime Minister to collect his personal things,  the denial of Permanent Secretaries into their offices,  the mandatory searching of civil servants belongings, closure of the Electoral Offices On Saint Kitts and Nevis and the presence of heavy Police Personnel in and around government headquarters.  Clearly, while such actions are morally wrong when governments change there is usually a transitional period but a level of civility is to be expected.

Information gleaned  from the  Oneness Alliance press conference,  suggests  that going forward the results of the February 16th Federal Elections would be challenged in the courts and the possibility exists that the electorate could be going back to the polls for a General Election in the next few months or things may remain as is with a Team Unity Government in control of the Federation’s affairs .
