SKN PULSE, Tuesday 13th January, 2014 – The Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis during his weekly discourse on ZIZ, (Ask The PM) made it clear that the Federal Elections would be held under the New Boundaries. It is the belief that the current make up of the constituencies are unfair given the unequal proportion of voters and this doesn’t define a true democracy. Areas that are considerably smaller in voter size includes the Constituencies comprising Sandy Point and Gingerland respectively.
The debate over the boundaries change has been ongoing over a period of five years as the major opposition parties have objected to the change stating that it’s unfair and would boost the agenda of the ruling Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and The Nevis Reformation Party.
It must be noted however that the process to have the boundaries changed has allowed for the input of all political parties as a Boundaries Commission has been in place and proposals were submitted by parties and a report formulated and signed only for the process to be halted by court proceedings and subsequently adjudicated. However, it appears that the expertise and strategists of the ruling Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party have finally got things right as the Prime Minister is confident that the elections will be contested under the New Boundaries.
