Basseterre Saint Kitts, Nov 1, SKN PULSE – Former Prime Minister Lester Bird will be knighted by the Antigua and Barbuda Government on Monday, 3rd, 2014 as the country observes its 33rd year of political independence.
A knighthood that was denied since 2008 when the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party occupied the opposition benches. However, the shouts of joy can be echoed now….
Flowers at last, Flowers at last. Sir Bird will now join the ranks of his father, Sir Vere Cornwall Bird and cricketing legend, Sir Vivian Richards. The others are Sir George Walter, Dame Nellie Robinson and leader of the slavery revolt King “Prince Klass” Court.
Lester Bird currently serves as a Senior Minister in the current Cabinet. Prime Minister Gaston Browne has described Bird, 76, as “the father of modern Antigua and Barbuda” and that he should ‘enjoy his flowers while still alive”.
